Dr. Mike Brooks is a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. He is the clinical director of the ApaCenter, (Austin Psychology & Assessment Center) and the executive director of ABA Connect, a practice serving children who are on the autism spectrum. His experience spans a number of settings including being employed as a school psychologist within public schools as well as providing psychological services in juvenile court, community mental health agencies, hospitals, and residential treatment programs. Within the ApaCenter, Dr. Brooks works with adolescents and adults, specializing in providing therapy, parent consultation, and coaching for challenges such as depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship difficulties. He is a frequent presenter and regular blogger on topics such as finding balance in a technological world, the effects of video game violence on children, cyberbullying, mindfulness, self-compassion, and raising successful children. He has been a guest expert on local television news programs, talk radio, the Austin American-Statesman, and numerous magazine articles.
Dr. Brooks received his doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin, with special honors in psychology. He conducted his dissertation research on the effect of video game violence on kids and has worked in the computer field as a usability specialist. He, his wife, and their three sons have ample opportunities to practice balancing a healthy family life with the constant pull of technology.
